Charming no more: Village at Meridian accessories store to close

Village at Meridian

There’s no cheering up Charlie this time. National chain jewelry and accessories retailer Charming Charlie announced this week it would join the crowd of failed retailers.

The chain opened a location in the Village at Meridian in 2013 – which will close, along with 260 other locations nationwide.

In a less-than-charming filing with US bankruptcy court, Charming Charlie says it “continued to face challenges that make it impossible for Charming Charlie to continue.” It last went through bankruptcy and made it out the other side. But the company’s bank account dwindled to just $6,000 (not a typo), and now is liquidating everything and laying off more than 3,000 people.

In addition to the Meridian location, a store in Twin Falls will also close.

The chain already started closing sales. CNN reports it could take up to two months to wind down.

More than 6,000 chain stores closed nationwide this year. In the Boise area, Charlotte Russe, Payless ShoeSource, Shopko, Sears and Gymboree locked their doors for the final time.
