THE MOST LOW-KEY ROYAL WEDDINGS IN HISTORY

By virtue of the name alone, ‘royal weddings’ are extravagant affairs.
Whenever anyone with a title even in the general vicinity of princess, duke, earl or lady gets married, onlookers can expect the usual fanfare. Horse-drawn carriages, couture gowns (with a dress change or two), glittering tiaras, towering cathedrals filled with hundreds of foreign dignitaries, an A-list guest list, et al.
But every now and then, a royal couple will come along to switch things up a little.
Whether it’s Charlotte Casiraghi eschewing the frothy princess ball gown in favour of a Saint Laurent ultra-mini dress, or Cleopatra, Hereditary Princess of Oettingen-Oettingen and Oettingen-Spielberg’s (yes, a real name) ultra-boho affair, these royal weddings went against the formal-grain.
Here, 11 of the most low-key royal weddings.
