ormer US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said that US President Donald Trump has a ‘bromance’ going on with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Donald Trump has a liking for dictators and whatever Trump does is out of Putin’s playbook, Hillary Clinton said while speaking at the India Today Conclave in Mumbai today.
Talking about the alleged Russian interference in the US election and the campaign against her, Hillary Clinton recalled a statement from when she was the US Secretary of State in 2011. In the statement she had said that people of Russia deserved free and fair elections. This may have rubbed Putin the wrong way and he blamed her for people protesting on the streets in Russia. Putin was very upset about it, she recalled. Clinton said that she was also outspoken about Russia’s role in Syria.
Describing Putin, Hillary Clinton said that he is not the most feminist of a leader and has a tight grip on power. Hillary pointed out that Putin was clear on wanting to restore the greatness of Russia and expand its borders.
ON LOSING PRESIDENTIAL RACE
The former US Secretary of State said that she never thought she was going to lose the elections. She said that Donald Trump ran a reality television campaign.
She said that similar to a reality TV show, the contestant who was the most attacking got the maximum ratings. Hillary Clinton said that the US voters were drawn to the role he was playing as a presidential candidate.
The former senator from New York said that Trump stalked her during presidential campaigning and she felt it was right of ignoring him altogether then. However, after the elections Clinton felt that instead of ignoring him, she should have responded to his personal attacks.
WHAT ELSE SHE SAID
Hillary Clinton said that she has no plans to run for the next presidential campaign but added that the next US elections will be eventful.
She said that vote for Trump showed that there was a sense among people of being left behind in a fast-changing economy, part of it was a reaction against immigrants and more rights to women and LGBT communities.
Donald Trump, she said, started his presidential campaign by attacking immigrants, and drumming up anti-immigrant feelings.
Hillary Clinton said that immediately after former FBI director James Comey’s letter on his investigation into her emails, her ratings dropped among white women who, she thought, were going to vote for her.
On Donald Trump’s foreign policy, Hillary Clinton said he works on the basis of little real information. She said that the US president has agreed to meet Kim Jong-un without any preparation.
